Matadors Drop Both Ends of Saturday Doubleheader at UC Riverside
The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-38, 5-12 Big West) lost twice to UC Riverside Saturday afternoon in a Big West doubleheader at Amy S. Harrison Field. In game one, the CSUN offense could not support a strong start from Mia Pagano and lost 1-0. In game two, the Matadors came back from four runs down to tie the contest, but UCR scored a two-out run in the fifth to sweep the doubleheader.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-36, 5-10 Big West) hits the road for one final time, heading to UC Riverside for a three-game Big West Conference series. The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-35, 5-9 Big West) split a Big West Conferene doubleheader with Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon at Matador Diamond. In game one, CSUN slugged its way to a 5-2 victory behind four doubles, a home run and a solid pitching performance from Mia Pagano. In game two, Mikayla Thielges hit her seventh home run of the season to give CSUN an early lead, but the Titans responded with three home runs of their own to take a 7-2 victory.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (5-17) defeated Maine, 2-1, and lost to Harvard, 3-0, Friday in its first day at the Northridge Classic held at Matador Diamond. In the win over the Black Bears, Mia Pagano tossed a complete game and and allowed one unearned run to lead CSUN to a 2-1 victory. Against the Crimson, Rachel Brown fanned 13 Matadors and alowed only three hits as Harvard won 3-0.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (0-12) lost twice Thursday at the 2012 Cathedral City Classic In the first game, CSUN held an early lead and was tied 3-3 headed into the seventh before Boise State pushed two runs across on a home run to take a 5-3 victory. In the nightcap, the Matadors lost their fifth game of the young season to a ranked opponent, falling 4-0 to the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (0-10) remains on the road this weekend with a five-game slate at the prestigious Cathedral City Classic. The event, which is hosted by Oregon State, features teams from across the United States, including nationally ranked squads from Florida and Georgia. The Cal State Northridge softball program and the USSSA Pride, a team that competes in the National Pro Fastpitch league, participated in a community event at Matador Diamond Tuesday afternoon to promote the game of softball to the surrounding communities. A large crowd of fans of all ages watched the two teams compete in a variety of game simulations and were able to get autographs from both teams following the contest.

Northridge Opens 2012 Campaign with Five-Game Slate at ASU’s Kajikawa Classic
The Cal State Northridge softball team starts its 2012 season with five games in Tempe, Ariz., as part of the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State University. The Matadors will certainly get a tough test right out of the gates as they will play five teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Among the five teams, CSUN will also face three teams that appeared in the preseason rankings (Stanford, Nebraska, Arizona) and one squad that received votes (Syracuse).
