January 17, 2012 Rafael Garcia Selected in 2nd Round of MLS Supplemental Draft by LA Galaxy Midfielder Rafael Garcia was selected by the LA Galaxy with the 19th pick of the second round (38th overall) in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. Garcia becomes the fourth former Matador with connections to the Galaxy, joining past defender Ben Benditson, defender and 2008 MLS Rookie of the Year Sean Franklin, and decorated goalkeeper Kevin Guppy, who has been training with the club as a member of the league's Reserve Goalkeeper Pool.
December 28, 2011 Four Matadors Earn All-Big West Conference Academic Honors Four members of the Cal State Northridge Men's Soccer team earned recognition for their successes in the classroom last fall as the university had student-athletes from each sport represented on the Big West Academic All-Conference list. In all, 125 student-athletes from all nine member institutions received the honor.

December 7, 2011 Rafael Garcia Invited to 2012 adidas MLS Player Combine The Matador men’s soccer program has reason to be proud this offseason as senior midfielder Rafael Garcia has been selected to participate in the 2012 adidas MLS Player Combine, Major League Soccer announced in a press release today. Garcia is one of 52 NCAA Division I athletes invited to the Combine.
December 28, 2011 Matadors Place 17 on Fall All-Big West Academic Team Seventeen Matadors earned recognition for their successes in the classroom this fall as Cal State Northridge had student-athletes from each sport represented on the Big West Academic All-Conference list, the league announced this week. November 16, 2011 2011 Men's Soccer Year in Review Another season has come and gone for the Matadors men's soccer team. After a 2010 season that ended with a 3-14-2 record, Northridge was able to turn things around this season as it went 8-8-3 and finished fifth in the Big West Conference at 4-4-2. The Matadors fell a point shy of reaching the postseason in 2011, but had a much-improved offensive attack and defensive scheme. A total of seven players were named to All-Conference teams, tied for the second most in the Big West.

November 5, 2011 Matadors Complete Season Sweep of Titans to Close Regular Season Brian Behrad scored in the first half, Christian Gonzalez Diaz added a goal in the second and the Cal State Northridge Matadors (8-8-3, 4-4-2 Big West) completed a season sweep of the Cal State Fullerton Titans (7-7-5, 1-6-3 Big West) with a 2-1 win at Titan Stadium on Saturday night.
November 1, 2011 Rally Falls Just Short as Matadors Drop 3-2 Double Overtime Decision to #16 UC Santa Barbara After scoring with 72 seconds left in regulation to force overtime after being a man down for nearly 34 minutes, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-8-3, 3-4-2 Big West) fell to the No. 16 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (12-5-1, 5-4-0 Big West) 3-2 on Tuesday night at Matador Soccer Field. The loss came in the third straight double-overtime match for the Matadors, who earned draws against then-No. 9 UC Irvine and Cal Poly last week.
October 31, 2011 Matadors Host No. 16 UCSB on Senior Night, Finish Season at Fullerton With just two matches remaining on the schedule, the Cal State Northridge Matadors can control their playoff destiny with a pair of league contests this week. First, the Matadors host the No. 17 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Then, Northridge closes out the regular season at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Nov. 5, also at 7 p.m. The match against the Gauchos will be Senior Night at Matador Soccer Field, with a pregame ceremony slated to honor the program’s four seniors before kickoff. The Senior Night match will be broadcast via online radio through Stretch Internet on GoMatadors.com with Eldrick Bone and Raul Delgado making the call. October 31, 2011 Two Overtime Shutouts Earn Abalos Defensive Player of the Week Honor Cal State Northridge men’s soccer goalkeeper Michael Abalos has been named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The award is the first for Abalos this season and the third accolade for the Matadors in 2011.
October 29, 2011 Matadors Tie Cal Poly in Defensive Battle For the second straight match there was not a goal scored as the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-7-3, 3-3-2 Big West) played the Cal Poly Mustangs (6-7-3, 3-4-1 Big West) to a draw on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors earned one point in the conference standings and are now fifth with two matches to play.
October 26, 2011 Matadors Play No. 9 UC Irvine to Scoreless Draw Goalkeeper Michael Abalos made six saves and the Cal State Northridge defense held tight for 110 minutes as the Matadors (7-7-2, 3-3-1 Big West) played the No. 9 UC Irvine Anteaters (13-4-1, 5-2-1 Big West) to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at Matador Soccer Field. The draw gives the Matadors 10 points on the season and sole possession of the Big West Conference's final playoff spot with three matches to play.
October 25, 2011 Matadors Face No. 9 UCI, Cal Poly with Playoffs on the Line With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Cal State Northridge Matadors return home for two cruicial Big West matches that carry playoff implications. First, the Matadors host league-leading UC Irvine on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Then, Northridge will host Cal Poly on Saturday, Oct. 29, also at 7 p.m. Both opponents enter the week in the top half of the standings and each match carries significant weight with just one week remaining until the Big West Conference Tournament.
October 22, 2011 Late Heroics Lead Matadors to Upset Victory over No. 7 UCLA With two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-7-1, 3-3-0 Big West) rallied for a come-from-behind win over the No. 7 UCLA Bruins (10-4-1, 5-0-0 Pac-12) 3-2 on Saturday night at Drake Stadium in Westwood, Calif. The victory was the first in history for the Matadors at UCLA as they moved to 2-13-3 against the Bruins all-time. The only other victory came in a 3-0 shutout at Matador Soccer Field on Sept. 29, 2009.
October 19, 2011 Matadors Lose to UC Riverside 2-1 After Late Scoring Flurry Despite scoring a late goal to take the lead, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (6-7-1, 3-3-0 Big West) fell to the UC Riverside Highlanders (7-5-2, 2-3-1 Big West) 2-1 on Wednesday night at UCR Soccer Stadium in Riverside. Thomas Ramos scored for Northridge in the 86th minute but goals for the Highlanders in the 88th and 90th minutes won the match for UC Riverside.
October 18, 2011 Matadors Travel for Road Tests at UCR, #7 UCLA This Week The Cal State Northridge Matadors have a pair of road matches this week when they travel to UC Riverside for a Big West Conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and to Los Angeles for a non-conference contest at No. 7 UCLA on Saturday, Oct. 22. Both matches are slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. The meeting with Riverside will be the only match between the two this year and marks the start of the second half of the Big West season as each team has five conference games remaining. October 15, 2011 Matadors Fall in Overtime 2-1 to UC Davis After tying the match with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (6-6-1, 3-2-0 Big West) did not find the net again as they dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to the UC Davis Aggies (5-6-2, 3-2-0 Big West) on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field. UC Davis forward Matt Sheldon created a turnover inside the six-yard box and scored the winning goal just over three minutes into the first overtime period.
October 13, 2011 Matadors Face UC Davis At Home in Crucial League Match The Cal State Northridge Matadors return home to Matador Soccer Field for one match this week against the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. It will be a rematch of the Matadors’ 3-0 conference-opening win at UC Davis on Sept. 28 and will also be Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the field, with all fans wearing pink receiving free admission to the contest. October 1, 2011 Matadors Alone Atop Big West Standings After 3-0 Victory Over #19 Cal State Fullerton Carlos Benavides assisted on three goals and Christian Gonzalez Diaz scored once and added an assist of his own as the Cal State Northridge Matadors (5-4-1, 2-0-0) rolled to a 3-0 victory over the #19 Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-2-2, 0-1-0) on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field. September 28, 2011 Rafael Garcia's Two Penalty Kick Goals Seal 3-0 Northridge Victory The Cal State Northridge Matadors (4-4-1, 1-0-0) opened up the 2011 Big West Conference season with a 3-0 victory over the UC Davis Aggies (2-5-2, 0-1-0) on Wednesday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field in Davis, Calif. The Matadors are now 20-7-4 in conference season openers, including a record of 8-1-2 in Big West opening matches and have not lost their first conference match of a season since dropping a 2-1 decision at home to UC Irvine in 2002.

September 23, 2011 Matadors Drop 1-0 Decision to SMU The Cal State Northridge Matadors (2-4-1) played hard until the final whistle but were unable to erase the deficit in a 1-0 loss to the Southern Methodist University Mustangs (4-3-0) on Friday night at Matador Soccer Field. The match was the first for the Matadors in over a week and marked the 2011 regular-season debut of senior midfielder Rafael Garcia, who had been sidelined with an injury sustained in Northridge's exhibition match against CSU Dominguez Hills on Aug. 20.

August 4, 2011 Matadors Add Yarden Azulay to Recruiting Class The Cal State Northridge Matadors have added Yarden Azulay to the 2011 recruiting class, head coach Terry Davila announced Thursday. Azulay, from Jordan Valley, Israel, will become the second Israeli-born player and third from overseas on the squad, joining defender Yuval Barak and goalkeeper Manabu Kaji.
