Matador Men Finish Third, Women Fourth at 2012 Big West Track & Field Championships
Kemar Marsden and the Cal State Northridge men made a day two charge but finished in third-place while the Matador women saw their six-year run as conference champions end Saturday at the 2012 Big West Track & Field Championships at Anteater Stadium.

Matadors Squeeze By UC Irvine, Even Series with 6-3 Win
Two perfectly executed squeeze bunts at critical points in the game helped the Cal State Northridge Matadors (21-24, 8-9 Big West) defeat the UC Irvine Anteaters (28-19, 12-8 Big West) 6-3 to even their three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Matador Field. Nathan Ring added a two-run double in the fifth inning that proved to be the game-winning hit as the Matadors defeated the Anteaters for the first time since the 2008 season.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-42, 5-16 Big West) lost 4-1 to UC Santa Barbara in its season finale Saturday at Matador Diamond. Mikayla Thielges had an RBI single and Mia Pagano had six strikeouts, but the errors undid the Matadors' efforts on senior day.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-41, 5-15 Big West) lost twice to UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference doubleheader at Matador Diamond. UCSB freshman Shelby Wisdom tossed a no-hitter in game one (2-0) and then added a complete-game shutout and two-run home run in the second game (7-0) to keep the Gauchos' hopes for a Big West title alive.

Northridge Opens Final Homestand Against Surging UC Irvine
The Cal State Northridge Matadors open up the final homestand of the season with three games against the red-hot UC Irvine Anteaters this weekend at Matador Field. The Anteaters have won seven out of their last eight games, including back-to-back Big West sweeps at home, while the Matadors are coming off of their first Big West road series win in over eight years. Last season, Northridge dropped three straight at Anteater Ballpark but the program already has more conference wins this season than in 2011 and looks to continue its recent string of success. All three games this weekend will feature radio and live stats coverage on GoMatadors.com. Sunday’s finale will also be the final CSUN home baseball game of 2012 to stream live online at BigWest.TV. Matadors Open Second Half of Big West Season at UC Riverside
The Cal State Northridge Matadors will open up the second half of conference play this week with a three-game road series at UC Riverside. The Matadors and Highlanders are separated by just one game in the Big West standings at the halfway mark and Northridge will look to continue to climb the ladder with a series win at UCR. Matador Women’s Basketball Enjoys Banner Year in 2011-12 Season
Flowers guided the Matadors to an impressive and historic campaign in the 2011-12 season. The Matadors finished 17-14 overall, compiling the best turnaround in the nation, and posted an 11-5, second-place finish in the Big West Conference. The success culminated in an invitation to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), just the second time in the school’s Division-I history that the Matadors participated in the postseason.

Twice trailing by a run in their final at-bats, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (18-21, 5-6 Big West) were able to keep the game going, eventually scoring the winning run in the 12th inning to knock off the Long Beach State Dirtbags (20-20, 10-4 Big West) 6-5 on Saturday afternoon at Matador Field. Northridge Welcomes Conference-Leading Long Beach State This Week
The Cal State Northridge Matadors return to Big West Conference play this weekend at Matador Field and face a crucial test against the Long Beach State 49ers. The Matadors have a chance to shake up the conference standings as Long Beach State sits in a tie for first with the Cal State Fullerton Titans, who have a bye week. After the weekend series against the 49ers, the Matadors will have four series remaining, all against teams that are currently behind them in the standings. Northridge needs three victories to surpass its 2011 Big West record and seven more to have a better overall record. After allowing the tying run to score in the top of the ninth, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (14-18) were able to plate the winner in the bottom half to edge the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (15-16) 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Matador Field. CSUN Women's Hoops Collects Multiple All-Big West Honors
The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team collected multiple 2011-12 All-Big West awards as voted upon by the league’s coaches, the conference office announced Monday. CSUN collected three individual awards as Janae Sharpe was named Freshman of the Year. Violet Alama was named Co-Sixth Woman of the Year and Jason Flowers was named Coach of the Year. Senior Jasmine Erving earned All-Big West First Team honors, Sharpe was named to the Second Team and Ashlee Guay and Alama received Honorable mention accolades.

Matadors Open 2012 Season with Trip to State Capital, Host #14 UCLA
Big plans are in the works for 2012 with the 54th season of Matador baseball rapidly approaching. Northridge comes into the year with top returning talent and the infusion of skilled newcomers to give the program a number of reasons to look forward to a Big West championship run this year. The Matadors return a total of 16 letterwinners and two redshirts from a year ago and add four junior transfers to the program, giving more depth and experience to a team that is looking to be a force in the Big West Conference this season.

CSUN women’s tennis head coach Gary Victor has been named the USPTA California College Coach of the Year for 2011. Rafael Garcia Selected in 2nd Round of MLS Supplemental Draft by LA Galaxy
Midfielder Rafael Garcia was selected by the LA Galaxy with the 19th pick of the second round (38th overall) in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft on Tuesday. In home victories over UC Irvine and UC Riverside, Sharpe averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 steals as CSUN improved to 7-7 for the season.

2011 Men's Soccer Year in Review
Another season has come and gone for the Matadors men's soccer team. After a 2010 season that ended with a 3-14-2 record, Northridge was able to turn things around this season as it went 8-8-3 and finished fifth in the Big West Conference at 4-4-2. The Matadors fell a point shy of reaching the postseason in 2011, but had a much-improved offensive attack and defensive scheme. A total of seven players were named to All-Conference teams, tied for the second most in the Big West.

With two goals in the final eight minutes of regulation, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (7-7-1, 3-3-0 Big West) rallied for a come-from-behind win over the No. 7 UCLA Bruins (10-4-1, 5-0-0 Pac-12) 3-2 on Saturday night at Drake Stadium in Westwood, Calif. The victory was the first in history for the Matadors at UCLA as they moved to 2-13-3 against the Bruins all-time. The only other victory came in a 3-0 shutout at Matador Soccer Field on Sept. 29, 2009.

Former Matador Nick Delio Advances to Second Round of PGA Q-School
Former Cal State Northridge All-American Nick Delio posted a final round 70 to finish the First Stage of PGA Q-School in a tie for 18th-place which advanced him to the Second Qualifying Stage in mid-November.

Matadors Post 1-0 Road Victory over Titans
The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (6-7-2, 4-1-1 Big West) defeated Cal State Fullerton 1-0 Thursday evening in a Big West Conference match at Titan Stadium. Senior Heidi Farran scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season and the Matadors got some outstanding defense as they won their fourth-straight over the Titans.
